For reward vendors: Redeeming rewards

Businesses offering discounts and offers can offer them as Web3-enabled rewards to acquire new customer groups. This article overviews how to verify that a reward is valid when a customer presents a Web3 token in their digital wallet at your business.

Reward redemption takes three steps for your customer.

1 - Connect a wallet on Token Explorer

First, users need to find their token, and your associated reward. To do this, they need to:

1A - Navigate to Token Explorer. Go to the PicoNext Token Explorer at https://connect.piconext.com/ using the device that has the digital wallet installed.

1B - Connect wallet. Connect a digital wallet (using the wallet address containing their token), by pressing Connect Wallet. This will display all the digital tokens in their wallet

Troubleshooting

  • No digital wallet. If a user doesn't have a digital wallet, like Metamask or Coinbase, they will need to download one, and have their Web3 token sent to the wallet's account address. Supported wallets can be found at the article Get a digital wallet

2 - Navigate to the token

2A - Find token in wallet. The user then needs to find and tap on the token containing their reward. A token typically will represent an experience related to your area or property.

2B - View and find reward. The user's rewards will display in a list below their token in the Rewards tab. When they're ready to redeem a specific reward, they can tap the Redeem button.

Troubleshooting

  • Can't find the token. If a user can't find a token, it may be due to one of the following issues
  1. Wrong network. Ensure the network in the digital wallet app has been set to the same network that the token has been minted on. For example, if the token has been sent using the Polygon mainnet network, ensure that the wallet is set to the Polygon network. Note that by default Metamask does not have Polygon networks pre-installed. To add Polygon to a Metamask wallet, see the article Adding Polygon networks to your Metamask wallet
  2. Wrong address. The token may have been sent to a different wallet address than the one they're using. The user needs to connect with a different wallet address that the token may have been sent to. Or the user should contact the token provider (the company who partnered with you on this reward) to send the token to the correct address.
  • The reward doesn't display under the token. If the user can't find a specific reward underneath the token, it may have expired, or it may have not been associated correctly with the token. Contact the token provider (the company who partnered with you on this reward) to have them fix the error.

3 - Redeem the reward

3A - Verify token. When a user taps on Redeem, they're taken to a redemption page that verifies if they hold the correct token, and if they're within the redemption rules for your reward (for example, if they've redeemed it before).

  • Valid token to redeem. If they're eligible to receive the reward, the user will see a QR code or a coupon code
  • Invalid token to redeem. If they're NOT eligible to receive the reward, the user will an error message (for example, the reward is expired, or has been previously redeemed)

3B - Redeem reward. Valid rewards will display either a QR code or a coupon code. The redemption screen may also display additional instructions (like a Web site to redeem the coupon code on, or on-site instructions)

  • QR code rewards. To redeem a QR code reward from a user, simply scan the QR code with any smartphone camera, which will mark the reward as redeemed.

  • Coupon code rewards. To redeem a coupon code reward, you can enter the coupon code into your point-of-sale (POS) or e-commerce system. Alternatively, you can also give a Web site address to the token provider (the company who partnered with you on this reward), which users should visit to redeem their coupon code

Troubleshooting

  • User receives an error message when verifying the token. If a user receives an error message, the token may have been redeemed previously, or it may be expired. For other errors, have the user contact the token provider (the company who partnered with you on this reward).
